Late goal lifts Carroll to finals

(Waukesha, Wis.) - Leah Wiercinski scored in the 88th minute to lift the Carroll University women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Lawrence University in the semifinals of the Midwest Conference Tournament.

Kate Tarquino gave the Pioneers a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute but the Vikings equalized less than five minutes later. The game remained knotted at one apiece until Wiercinski netted the game-winner at 87:03.

Carroll advances to the finals where they will face St. Norbert College. The Green Knights knocked off Lake Forest College, 3-2, earlier in the evening.
