(Waukesha, Wis.) - Carroll University men's basketball coach, David Buchanan, announced today that George Haas has been retained as an assistant coach. Haas worked as an assistant men's basketball coach for the past two seasons under former head coach David Schultz. "Retaining Coach Haas in our program has been a great asset for this program. He instantly connects with recruits and their families and has respect from all of our returning players," said Buchanan. "Coach Haas is also a very accomplished veteran coach that will be able to share his experience with all of us and be a great help during practices and games as well. We are fortunate to have him return. Our entire staff and players look forward to working with him." Prior to joining the Pioneers staff, Haas was a highly successful coach at Wauwatosa East High School for 27 years - 13 years as the junior varsity coach and 14 years as the varsity head coach. His teams won 482 games overall, including a 270-50 record at the varsity level. In his 14 years as a varsity head coach, Wauwatosa East won 12 conference championships while advancing to the State Tournament in 1997 and 2002. Haas won several conference Coach of the Year awards and was named Wisconsin's Coach of the Year in 2002. During his high school tenure, Haas coached several players that went on to successful collegiate careers and two players that eventually played in the National Basketball Association - Tony Smith and Devin Harris. Haas will be joined on the staff by two assistant coach newcomers, Greg Polkowski and Marcus Wiegert. 2009-2010 Men's Basketball Home Page
